Bottled water, an environmental disaster

∙ In America alone, every day more than 70 million plastic bottles are consumed, of which some 60 million are discarded - not recycled.

∙ The manufacture and distribution of millions of bottles of water a day has an ongoing negative impact on the environment, increasing foreign petroleum dependency, gasoline consumption, and traffic-induced lost productivity and air pollution.

∙ Plastic bottles are made from petroleum, with inevitable degradation of the plastic and dissolving of phthalates into the water

∙ If not purified tap water, a bottle of water is most likely from an aquifer continually being diminished; the decline of aquifer levels worldwide is another looming environmental catastrophe
